2016 RESERVE RELEASE
I have been stating for a couple of years now, just how good the 2014 vintage was across all the wine styles. I couldn’t be more excited and proud to announce the release of these wonderful wines.
The gold, double gold, best of class and platinum awards that previous vintages of these wines have been awarded, is beyond compare. This release of reserve wines are a benchmark from LA FRENZ and I humbly say for the Canadian industry as a whole.
Each and every one of them is mouth-filling, richly bodied and layered with seamless integration, the depth of flavor is endless. They are reserve wines in every sense of the word and would easily sit in the company of wines of these varieties from anywhere in the world.
These wines will sell out quickly and are not to be missed. Order here.
2014 Ensemble – This wine is a delicious melding of 70 % Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon in a Graves style. It was aged on its yeast lees for 12 months before blending. It has layers of mint, passionfruit, lime and asparagus tones all wrapped around a creamy palate structure and great body that lingers forever. Possessing a beautiful chalky minerality and balanced acidity, this wine is a superb example of the style.
2014 Reserve Chardonnay – This wine was aged sur lie for a full 15 months in a mix of new & one use Burgundy barrels. It is big, richly flavored with incredible texture and yet, restrained at the same time. Excellent flavors of melon, stone fruits, roasted nuts, caramel and creamy oatmeal are all interwoven seamlessly around a lovely linear core of acidity, which will see this wine age beautifully for at least a decade.
2014 Vivant – This is a Conundrum style blend of super ripe Viognier, Chardonnay Musque and Roussanne. 10% was barrel fermented in new French oak barrels and the remainder in neutral barrels to build body and retain as much varietal fruit character as possible. This wine has a great deep lemon yellow color indicative of its intensity. It is overloaded with aromatic fruits notes from the Viognier; has a full body from the barrel fermented Chardonnay and as typical of the Roussanne varietal, it hints of marmalade on hot buttered toast. There is just a touch of sweetness which really fills out an already huge wine.
2014 Reserve Pinot Noir – This is a super wine and a great example of what this variety can produce. A great Pinot noir is all about layers, depth and mouthfeel; the clenched fist in a silk glove as others have described it. It displays intense aromas of ripe strawberries and red fruits over a background of rain on freshly tilled earth, with subtle hints of sap and barbequed meats and then some. The palate starts out rich, round and mouth-filling, overladen with everything that the aroma promises and finishes with a beautiful dense yet supple, fine grain tannin structure. Absolutely superb drinking now, but will age superbly.
2013 Grand Total Reserve – This is the second year in a row where dense, chewy Merlot has come to represent better than half the final blend, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon for density and structure, and a lesser amount of Cabernet Franc for its beautiful aroma. Blending allows us to use the very best characteristics of these varieties to consistently produce this reserve style .This release is just so dark, dense and brooding that it would easily sit alongside the best of great Bordeaux blends that I enjoy from our neighbours in Washington state. At 15% alcohol, this is an inky concentrated red wine brimming with super ripe cassis, with hints of prune, cigar box and menthol. The age ability of this wine comes from its density and concentration rather than big tannin structure. With nearly two years aging in barrel and further bottle aging, this wine is amazingly drinkable upon release.
In my 40 plus years of experience, the truly great wines always create an OMG moment when savored in a large broad based wineglass and that’s what I get when tasting each of these reserve releases.
As always, enjoy with great food and company,
