2016 RED WINES RELEASE
We are thrilled to be releasing the much anticipated 2014 red wines. I believe the 2014 growing season to be one of the best, if not the best vintages across all wine styles in my 22 years in Canada.
An early start and consistently mild weather throughout allowed us to hand pick each variety at optimum maturity and flavour. Each of these new releases is intense with loads of varietal fruit character yet very silky and elegant, layered with subtle nuances of the biodiverse and living soils that we strive for in our vineyards. These wines will reward you through careful cellaring. Keeping in mind personal preferences and individual palates, we recommend five to ten years of cellaring.
2014 Syrah, Rockyfeller Vineyard, 13.6% alcohol – We have changed the name to reflect that this wine is more “old world” style than “new world”. This wine has an incredibly varietal, lifted aroma and palate. We love what co-fermenting with 5% Viognier does for this variety, very Northern Rhone in style. A dark, earthy, brambly structured wine, brimming with blueberry, violets, licorice and a hint of white pepper. A beautiful Syrah!
This was recently one of the top rated Syrahs at the National Wine Awards winning a gold medal, helping to place LA FRENZ in the top 2% from 450 Canadian wineries.
2014 Malbec, Rockyfeller Vineyard, 14% alcohol – This has an extremely dark purple colour, loaded with dark fruits such as ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry jam. Good structure oozing with subtle nuances of roasted herbs, mocha and barbequed meats…mmmmn.
2014 Merlot, Rattlesnake Vineyard, 14% alcohol – This has wonderful hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and dark blackberry fruit. This is a weighty, dense Merlot with fine grain tannin structure more suited to pairing with charbroiled steak than summer sipping. This is a 10 year Merlot if you can wait that long.
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Rockyfeller Vineyard, 14.2% alcohol – This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. The wine has lovely rich tones of blackberry and cassis with espresso, dried herbs and menthol. The structure is textured and supple, making for a very expressive varietal Cabernet Sauvignon.
