2014 Desperation Hill Pinot Noir
La Frenz

This wine truly expresses the delicate beauty that is Pinot Noir. More concentrated in both colour and flavours than the 2013 vintage, our 2014 Pinot Noir offers an incredibly opulent palate with a persistent finish.

Enticing notes of wild foraged dark berries along the lines of ripe strawberries, Saskatoon berries and mulberries mingle beautifully with warming notes of wet earth, licorice, cedar and vanilla bean. To craft this superb, multi-dimensional wine, the fruit was separated by the five different clones and three different soil types for fermentation. As with all our wines that have oak influence, only premium French oak barrels are used. 15% of this Pinot Noir was barrel aged in new oak with an overall total of 13 months in barrel.

This Pinot Noir was crafted with immediate enjoyment in mind though it will continue to develop up to 3-4 years from vintage date. Ideal cellaring will further emphasize the silkier mouthfeel and the lovely earthier notes.

2014 Syrah
La Frenz

The 2014 Syrah is a deeply hued and full-bodied wine that was produced in a northern Rhone style and reflects the excellent harvest that fall.

The addition of a small percentage of Viognier during fermentation is represented both in the vibrant colour and on the mid-palate with floral and fruit characteristics of violets, ripe blueberries and dark purple fruits. Only French oak was used (15% new) for a 20 month maturation and is noted in the structure and a creamy cashew-like characteristic.

This generous, broad mouthfeel leads to a persistent finish that highlights the earthy and savoury characteristic of a well-ripened Syrah, bringing to mind rosemary, white pepper and hints of charcuterie and soy.

The classic pairing of roast or grilled lamb would make for a delicious evening with friends!

Under ideal transportation and cellaring conditions, the 2014 Syrah can be cellared five plus years from release.

2014 Malbec
La Frenz

This vintage shows all the wonderful characters typical of a well-made, cooler climate Malbec – a beautiful deep purple colour, ripe tannins and a density of flavours.

The aromatic spectrum of ripe berries on the nose leads to a luscious mouthfeel brimming with dark fruits such as black cherries, and plums. Subtle nuances of mocha, roasted herbs and barbecued meats weave their way through the fruit-forward notes.

Unlike most reds, Malbec can be easily enjoyed with a very slight chill to it, making it a great option for those looking for a summer red. Go southern for a food pairing with a melt in your mouth beef brisket or a burger with mushrooms and a thin slice of local artisan blue cheese melted on.

Easily enjoyable upon release, the 2014 Malbec may be cellared for up to five years from release.

2014 Merlot
La Frenz

Our 2014 Merlot is plush wine with a ripe fruit sweetness that gives way to a big, weighty mid-palate and a generous, lengthy finish.

This wine is highly aromatic with enticing notes of ripe berries and plums laced with vanilla bean. On the palate, you’ll experience a velvety richness and elegant structure. Dense flavours are abundant particularly of ripe black cherries, baking spices, dried fruit mix and Black Forest cake.

Savour the Merlot with roasted pheasant and root vegetables or pan seared, medium-rare tenderloin with red wine jus.

While the 2014 Merlot is currently quite approachable with such round tannins, we recommend cellaring for up to 10 years to truly reap the rewards of an aged well-crafted Merlot.

2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
La Frenz

This wine is a pure and expressive example of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal when allowed to full ripen – a robustly savoury and powerfully structured wine that remains gracefully welcoming with its beautifully textured tannins.

Generous aromas of sweet menthol, licorice all sorts and brambly wild berries surround the more subtle notes of dried fruits, espresso and earth.

Pair our Cabernet Sauvignon (even better if it’s an older vintage) with braised beef short-ribs for a satisfying meal.

This Cabernet Sauvignon will be even more delightful with some time in your cellar. Under ideal conditions, it can be cellared for up to ten years.
