2016 SBL Pinot Noir
Our Desperation Hill vineyard consists of 5 clonal blocks that each descend over 3 soil types, Pinot Noir more than any other variety really reflects the soil it is grown in. Our small batch production techniques allow for endless creativity in our Pinot Noir wines. This wine was a co-fermentation of Dijon clones, 115 known for its pretty red fruits and the more dense and robust clone 667. The wine opens with an intoxicating aroma of ripe strawberries and a stewed compote of red fruits, overlaid with the sweet perfume of rain on freshly turned earth with subtle tones of mushroom and charred meats.
The palate is mouth filling and complex with excellent fine grain tannin, with sappy notes and structure attributed to the use of 30% whole bunch fermentation.
The structure and great length to this wine will reward anyone that puts this wine away for years to come.
